Yesterday was weird. The whole day I felt tired but I was not really tired. I realized that my eyes felt yucky. This was because of makeup. For a while, I have not been wearing makeup. For anyone who knows me well, this may come as a bit of a surprise.
I love makeup guys, but it makes my eyes feel terrible. When I apply it, it feels fine. But later on and after I take it off, my eyes feel all puffy and infected. My eyes look red and gross. I grew up loving makeup. I was always allowed to wear makeup so I never had to hide it or take it off after school. This was awesome to me, and I never knew other people experienced differently.
Makeup let me be free and experience creativity how it felt natural to me.
For the longest time I wanted to be a makeup artist – I planned on going to makeup artistry school. I love the transformative effect of makeup. I love how it can enhance everyone’s natural beauty. I have seen how makeup helps a woman with cancer feel better during her chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I love the myriad colours of eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick available to us. I love the sparkles. All the sparkles. All the time. I love the pretty brushes and how soft they are.
Alas, it seems like makeup is screaming at me to stay away. I am scared of not wearing makeup because it always seems to perk me up. I think wearing makeup is great for self-care because it forces you to put a bit of emphasis on yourself and making you feel better. Wearing makeup makes me feel more confident – more put together.
I don’t have to say a peep about the makeup double standard. We can all relate to this: if you wear makeup, then you take good care of yourself and you value your appearance. If you don’t, then maybe you can be perceived as lazy and careless, but that doesn’t mean you don’t value your appearance.
Do you have any suggestions? Are there brands that you turn to that are amazing for sensitive skin and eye areas? Is it better to let the makeup go? What do you think? Please leave me a comment below!
