This morning my mom took me to the market because it was pouring. My mom’s the best. We had my brother’s dog in the car, and he is a pretty stinking cute dog. I asked my mom why she was dog sitting, and it was one of those moments I am so thankful for. My mom said she was dog sitting to help my brother and his wife while they were busy. I retorted immediately that I would never dog sit. I do not *really* mind dog sitting specifically, but sometimes it is a real pain. This brought up the whole topic of doing things for people because you love them and want to help them.
This is brilliant! I am thankful for moments like these. They show you what this life is all about. I want to help people. I want to be willing to be inconvenienced to help others. I want others to reach out to me if they need something. I want to help people and serve them.
This made me think about our night last night and being thankful for all of the moments that God blesses us with. Anyone who knows me knows I am addicted to Toronto. I love the diversity of the city, the different cultures Toronto allows us to experience, and the dynamic feeling of a metroplex that is home to that many people. I have always wanted to live in Toronto, but that is not where we are in this season of life.
Last night we had an around the table experience with our dear friends, and it showed me the same thing – what life is all about. As we were all talking I was listening and looking around and taking it all in. I felt so lucky to be able to share food and life with people who are so special to Nick and I. I realized that if I was in Toronto, I would probably not have been able to have this experience.
I am always thinking of what I can do next, where I want to be instead of where I am. This is not the greatest way to live because I have not been content. And you all, I want to be content. I want to feel peace with where God has placed us. So here’s to new beginnings. Here is to being grateful for where you find yourself in life. Here is to amazing friends, and awesome times around the table and in life with them.
Let’s be thankful and take everything we have as a gift today. What are you thankful for? In what areas are you not thankful? What are some things you could be thankful for today that you did not see as blessings before? Let’s talk about it!
