I adore Christmas. I love the glitter everywhere. I love how busy the mall is. I love seeing people come out of the woodwork. I love seeing people in the park downtown. Gifts are my love language so I love gifts. I love giving gifts and am not shy about my love for receiving gifts. I love seeing relatives that I typically do not get to see. I love my siblings so much so I am thankful when we get to gather.
I love eggnog. I love Christmas cookies. I love Christmas music.
Those things are all celebratory, but I have been thinking lately of what we are really celebrating. I have been hearing so much about Advent through ‘The Happy Hour’ with Jamie Ivey podcast, and my pal Melissa Sharpe is launching her Advent Bible study on the Gateway church app today.
I was curious to dig more into Advent, and this was a really helpful article.
Advent is the season in the Christian church that comprises the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. Advent means “coming”. We are awaiting the birth of our Saviour and King, Jesus Christ.
This Christmas I want to focus less on the glitter and more into learning about the character of our gracious God. I want to learn more about what is actually in the Bible, and what we can learn from it. I want to learn more about God’s grace and our desperate need for a Saviour! I want to be so in tune with the Lord, and follow exactly where He is leading me. I want to run with everything God has gifted me. I want to give more thanks and praise for everything God has given to me in this season. I want to get to know Him more. I want to learn more about and trust the attributes of God. God has proven himself so faithful – I want to explore and discover more what that means. With the help of the Gateway app especially this Christmas season, we can learn more about different attributes of God. How cool is that?!
