When I discovered Shauna Niequist’s books, it changed my world. I love reading. I love books. I am obsessed with grammar. I love sentence formation. I am an extrovert but I could read for hours upon hours provided I have multiple chai tea refills.
When I found out that Shauna wrote a book about her love of food and around the table experiences, I was hooked. Food and around the table experiences are probably my favourite things about this wild crazy life. I love hosting gatherings. I love getting people around the table. I love how food connects people that might not have connected otherwise. I love how food acts as social glue (thank you, Mrs. O’Shea, my high school home economics teacher for first introducing me to this concept). Food connects our experiences and opens up people in ways they may not have had an opportunity to before.
I love hosting. I love menu planning. I love hospitality. I love blessing people with hospitality. I love taking care of people. I love welcoming people into our home and sharing our space and lives with them. Spoiler alert: there is a specific section of the book where she talks about bread and seriously, people. This brought me closer to the glory of God.
There are so many people breaking bread and sharing around the table experiences in the Bible. It symbolizes heart transformation and including people more than we could ever know.
Shauna so eloquently pens stories about her love of the times she has brought her people around the table. This resonates with me on such a deep level. Her stories are so heartfelt and encouraging.
What are you waiting for? Even ordering pizza can be the centre of a special memory making around the table experience.
What are some of your favourite around the table experiences you have had? What are some of your standby dishes you love blessing people with? Why do you love gathering your people?
